PE

At Grange Park Primary, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of our children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.

Each class has a designated time for PE. Please ensure your child comes to school prepared. They need their full Grange Park PE kit which is as follows;

  • Royal Blue T-Shirt
  • Plain black shorts / joggers
  • Black PE hoodie

Children need to remove earrings prior to the session. If your child is unable to remove their own earrings, please remove them before coming to school.

Intent

The P.E curriculum is based on the Real P.E Scheme of Learning this is a whole school scheme, which is followed from reception to Year 6.

This has been selected so that teachers can follow detailed planning which has progression throughout the key stages.

To ensure that pupils receive a broad and balanced curriculum, staff and coaches teaching P.E lessons follow the Real P.E Scheme of Learning which covers a range of sports and teaches a variety of skills. Children are exposed to traditional sports as well as more unusual sports such as ‘blind football’ from the Invictus games, free running and orienteering.

By the time, our children leave school we hope to instill a love of sport and a want to take part in sport for pleasure. We endeavor to change their perception of ‘P.E’ and understand its importance in their health and well-being as a whole – in and out of school life.

These ambitions are important because our children are from deprived, unhealthy families with a lack of knowledge and understanding of the importance of physical health.

Implementation

P.E lesson are taught to pupils by ‘Keep Kids Active’ who as professionals have up to date knowledge which they use alongside a scheme of planning (Real P.E )to provide the children with the best coaching. They can ensure that children are exposed to games, skills and challenges that are suitable for there age related expectation and as sporting professionals, the coaches can push children to deeper understanding and good qualifications.

Coaches liaise with each other and guarantee that progression of skill and delivery is progressive for each year group.

Children are encouraged to access P.E through the wider curriculum,  through topic and science lessons as well as activities during breakfast club, break time and lunch time.

Staff follow a PE long term plan to ensure that the correct coverage is taught.  Children receive one hour of professional coaching per week from years 1-6. Y4-6 also attend weekly swimming lessons as of September 2021.

Impact

Our PE Curriculum is high quality, well thought out and is planned to demonstrate progression. If children are keeping up with the curriculum, they are deemed to be making good or better progress. In addition, we measure the impact of our curriculum through the following methods:

  • A reflection on standards achieved against the planned outcomes by coaching staff
  • A celebration of learning for each term which demonstrates progression across the school*
  • Pupil discussions about their learning
